Roles and Responsibilities
- Resource allocation (buffer space, transmission slots, Ö)
- Bundle transfer - reliable and unreliable transport of bundles
- Bundle routing - routing of bundles between IPN domains
Three flavors of IPN Nodes
- Bundle Agent: builder and consumer of bundles
- Could be a stand-alone proxy device
- Could be collocated with an application (an OS service)
- IPN Gateway: custody transfer and routing between IPN domains
- IPN Relay: mitigation for R2 effects; no custody transfer
